Seems like every time I post something here I'm a bit closer to achieve my dream! That's so nice!
But of course, nothing can ever be just as simple, and there'll always be difficulties to overcome along the way...

So that's my story for this week:

For the past month, I've been talking a nice family from Naarden. We had a lot to talk about, many things to settle... and finally this week, we decided to do the "match", which means the family will receive me as their au pair for the next one year, starting in August!

Nevertheless, things got a bit complicated this weekend when the agency requested the final payment (for having helped me find a good family and to guarantee my safety during the whole program), and my father (who was responsible for doing that) had totally forgotten about that! And guess what? He spent the money!
So my mom suggested that I paid it and my dad would pay me back afterwards, but when I said I didn't have enough money we had a big fight! My parents just had an "attack" because they think I should have saved more money throughout the past years and blah blah blah... I know I really should have, but honestly, what can I do now?  Anyways...

I thought I'd be more excited when I found my host family, but I only seem to get more scared as things work better and better!

What I'm really excited about right now are my Dutch classes! It's not so difficult as I'd thought and I'm doing better than I'd expected! The best thing about them is that my "juffrow" and I always go out together to try beers from different parts of the world!
This week was a Greek beer named Mythos that tasted really good! And last week was the famous German Erdinger! And oh man, I'm definitely gonna have a lot of this beer when I visit Germany! xD

These happy hours of beer drinking make me fantasize so much about my new life! And yet it makes me scared... lol

All I know is that only time will tell whether I made a good or bad choice! ^^

Cheers! xxx

Alles goed!

And here I am again, much sooner than I'd expected!

So many news in so little time, I can't even believe all the good things that've happened to me lately...

To begin with, my journey as a future au pair's been goin' way better than I could've thought! In less than one month I found a nice family, talked to them on the phone, defined the match (whether we're gonna accept each other or not, and in my case it was positive!), settled the house rules and preferences, defined the my arrival at the Netherlands... well, that's a lot already!
I couldn't be happier about this, everything's goin' right as planned! 8)

That's where I'm gonna be living for the next one year starting in late August:

But now that everything is much more real, all the doubts and anxiousness start popping out... I have so much to think about, so many things to plan like:
-What to take and what not to take with me in a one-year long trip out of the country;
- What to do with the kids when I find myself out of new ideas to entertain them;
- What presents should I bring the family;
And several other questions that have been plaguing my mind for the last few weeks... I'd appreciate advices here!

All in all, things seem to be running in perfect order and I've no complaints (which is new! hehe).

Just hope life keeps following this track...

Next post will be bout my Dutch classes and how they're going.

Catch yall later! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The New Adventures Of An Old Dreamer

Again it's been a long time, but I've finally decided to work on this thing! :)

Just thought I'd put this blog up for something a bit more useful, so, from now on, I'm gonna use this space to write about my adventures on the way to being an Au Pair in Holland!

To start up, an Au Pair is usually a girl (in some cases boy) who is hired by a foreign family to take care of their children. The au pair must live with the new family for a minimum time of one year in their home country, so she/he will be given the opportunity to study a new language or anything else she/he wishes to study in this period.

Girls usually prefer to go to the USA to be au pairs, but I, as usual, had to things differently, and therefore have chosen to go to Holland. Why? Because I really wanted to go to Europe, and among the options the agency offered me (Austria, Germany and France), Holland seemed the most plausible choice, once it is only demanded that the au pair speaks fluent English (and not the local language) to be accepted there.

So, exact 2 months after I'd made up my mind about being an au pair in Holland, I received the good news: a Dutch family interested in hiring me, to start in mid august this year! :D

I won't reveal their names for obvious reasons, but they seem to be a very nice and traditional Dutch family from Naarden, a very small province near Hilversum and Amsterdam! I'm really excited about it, and the host mother said she intends to give me a call next week, so as soon as I have news I'll post it up here!

Most likely nobody will be reading or giving any importance to this shit, but it's important to me and I feel like sharing it with the entire world! So, if you happen to run across this blog and sympathize with it, or just wanna act like you give a damn, then leave me a comment and I'll be glad! :)

This is it for now, smell ya later buddies.

My new addiction

Thought it was about time to update this blog... got nothing to say, I'll just post up something that's been taking over me and my vacations for a while now...

So, I'm addicted to The Chronicles of Narnia! I watched the first two movies 4 times in a row this week! Been tryin to finish the book as well, but it's just way too long and I've had no time and nor patience enough to dedicate to it lately, so I guess it'll still take a little while till I get to finish it.

Anyways, Narnia is all I can think about right now!

And, of course I HAD to post the video with the Evanescence "allegedly" theme song for the movie "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" - for this is one of my top favorites bands and (for me) it sounds perfect with my (new) favorite book! :D

Reflexion About Modern Life

I see people. People around me. I see people who live.

They live their senseless lives throughout the endless emptiness as if there was a pot of sparkling gold to be reached at the end of the road.

They make their journeys: they're born, then they're children and they're "happy". They play, they do stupid things and yet they don't actually do a thing.

They grow up. They overcome adolescence through all the shit of its graceless age and become adults. And then they're expected to be good at something, but they rarely are. As grown ups they work, they're “clever”, they do stupid things. They spend years dedicating to work, to make money, and it ends up it was someone else's money they were making.
They're expected to achieve wealth, and they do. But it's someone else's wealth.

They get married, they have kids, they love their kids. And they have to work and make money, because their wives need new shoes, and their children need to go to a good school. The best school.
So they go, they spend hours, days, months working to feed their kids, but do they ever see them? Do they even know them, or that the daughter has a new boyfriend, or that the son has one as well? They don't.

What about their health? The doctors say it's perfect, thanks, now go back to work. And do they do. And the years go by... but when they less expect they're old. The health's gone. So they believe all the money they've made can finally be spend and that they can finally rest. And they do! They are laid to rest in a hospital bed, which is paid with that money. They cough, they bleed, and they do stupid things.

And then they look back at their lives, the days spent in the sun while they were walking a crowded avenue, or being squished like rotten potatoes when trying to stand straight in the crowded suffocating train, after a day at work, while others, the people to whom they made money for, drive their big imported cars with leather seats and cool air conditioners... They think of their wives, their kids, their houses and all the sacrifices. “What for?” they wonder. They recall the things they did, and they did stupid things. And... where's it all going now? They don't know.

Yes, they lived. And in the end they all end up dying, when they've made their journeys through, when they have fulfilled the cycle, even though they've never found what for.

Me, I see people. And I see how they do stupid things. And I know I'm not different. And neither are you.

Do you think you're special? Well, you're not fucking special. Neither am I.

We all live and do stupid things, and you know what? In the end we're all going to die, just like they do. What for? I got no bloody idea. Neither do they. But I do know we're all gonna keep living on and doing stupid things. People suck, they will always do, and there's nothing we can do about it.

We just... live. Just like they do. Is there any other option? Well, I don't think so. But let's not panic! It'll all end one day anyway.
